Breastfeeding Friendly Award Scheme
Breastfeeding mothers are welcome to Breastfeed their babies anywhere, the Equality Act 2010 says ‘A business cannot discriminate against mothers who are breastfeeding a child of any age’.
The Equality Act 2010 has specifically clarified that it is unlawful for a business to discriminate against a woman because she is breastfeeding a child.
At Breastfeeding Together we want to do everything we can to help you feel more comfortable as we recognise many mums feel nervous about breastfeeding their baby out and about in public.
That’s why we feel so passionate about the Breastfeeding Friendly Award Scheme.
The aims of the Breastfeeding Friendly Award Scheme are:
- To help new mums give their babies the best possible start in life
- To create an environment where more women choose to breastfeed their babies
- To encourage breastfeeding mothers to enjoy going out and about in the Wigan borough
There are currently over 200 venues and businesses signed up to the Breastfeeding Friendly Award across the borough to help breastfeeding mothers feel more confident about breastfeeding in public, and we’re always looking for more!
